Nicola Adams became the first female boxing Commonwealth Games champion after beating Northern Ireland's Michaela Walsh in Glasgow on Saturday.

The Haringey Police boxer won on a split decision in the flyweight final to complete the double after her gold medal at the London Olympics two years ago.

Adams told BBC Sport: "I'm overwhelmed. I can't believe it. The support I have had - I'd like to say thank you to everyone who has turned up today and to those who have supported from home.

"I knew it was close through the rounds but I thought I had done enough to just take it. It's definitely been a Scottish rumble in the jungle."

The 31-year-old has only lost once since becoming the Olympic champion in London and lived up to her billing as favourite for the Commonwealth event.
