Reporter Elizabeth Pears offers a behind-the-scenes perspective on the week's news |
9:24am Thursday 28th June 2007
Two of our schoolchildren have been killed in a matter of days.
I know I wrote about the recent spate of attacks only a few days ago, but since young Michael Dinnegan, a pupil at St Aloysius RC College in Highgate, was stabbed to death on Tuesday evening I felt
compelled to write again.
This incident, coupled with the fact that Annaka Pinto, 17, a pupil at Gladesmore School in Tottenham, was shot in the early hours of Saturday morning, has left hundreds of Haringey schoolchildren
devastated.
This boy and this girl were just kids but both of them had their lives dramatically cut short by a knife and a gun.
When will this madness end?
Michael’s mother Lorraine is now appealing for an end to gang violence. I really hope it does some good.
For now our thoughts are with all the family and friends affected by these brutal killings.
If you want to write a message of condolence or a tribute to Michael or Annaka, follow the links at the end of the stories on the news site.
Haringey Independent's reporter Elizabeth Pears offers in-depth analysis and an occasional light-hearted look at the week's news
