Reporter Elizabeth Pears offers a behind-the-scenes perspective on the week's news |
8:59am Friday 29th June 2007
I know this sounds a tad crazy but I hear scientists have found a way to turn peanut butter into diamonds.
I kid you not.
I won’t bore you with the technicalities (basically because my understanding is limited to nothing), but it’s something to do with high pressure and carbon containing materials.
Am I the only one failing to see the benefits? Granted, diamonds are expensive, but would someone still want a nice rock on their finger knowing it was made from a thick sandwich filling?
And diamonds are complex creatures. What will they do about the four Cs? (colour, cut, clarity and carat)? Maybe they will create clearer diamonds with smooth peanut butter and save the crunchy
variety for bigger carat versions.
Whatever next? jam turned into sapphires? sprouts becoming emeralds?
Can someone explain the benefit of this bizarre breakthrough? And whatever happened to a cure for the common cold? Glad the priorities are in order...
Haringey Independent's reporter Elizabeth Pears offers in-depth analysis and an occasional light-hearted look at the week's news
