Reporter Elizabeth Pears offers a behind-the-scenes perspective on the week's news |
11:19am Thursday 27th September 2007
It is 88 days until Christmas.
Pretty soon (I'd say give it until we have just ushered in October) and you'll be able to purchase trees, decorations and all the necessary paraphernalia from your local High Street.
Normally it frustrates me that we seem to spend an extremely disproportianate amount of the year listening to carols, buying the gifts and seeing twinkly fairy lights at every corner, but this year I
am willing it to happen sooner.
I don't even celebrate Christmas beyond a few gifts and a family meal but when I woke up this morning it felt so much like the depths of winter that it seemed appropriate to start sending my seasons
greetings.
I couldn't make Boris Johnson's visit to Wood Green last week but now that he's officially been made the Tory candidate for London Mayor I might have to lure him back to these parts and ask him if he
could sort out this problem.
See I figure if it's going to get so unpleasantly cold in September we might need to consider moving the winter festivities earlier in the year to bring some cheer to these miserable times.
Either that or today is World Tourism Day so find some warmer climate to seek solace in while the rest of us suffer the plummeting temperatures and impending countdown to December 25.
