Haringey's twin towns

By Caron Kemp »

Further to my blog yesterday urging people to up sticks and leave Haringey for warmer climates I wanted to offer you a suggestion.

Extensive research (i.e. looking on the Haringey Council website) has established that the borough is in fact twinned with six other towns worldwide. So if you want to get away while feeling like it's a home from home why not try one of these great destinations?

Arima in Trinidad: You drive on the left here. (Sorry I'm sure it's a great place but my extensive research only produced this important bit of likeness with Haringey.)

Clarendon in Jamaica: Most of the island's tobacco is grown here. I am making no comment as to whether the whole smoking thing bears any resemblance to the borough but last time I checked there was no dairy farming, fish farming or copper mining going on.

Koblenz in Germany: Koblenz is well-known for its wine trade. It is also twinned with Norwich.

Livry-Gargan in France: Livry-Gargan is poorly served by the French underground system. There is no link to the Paris Metro, RER or suburban rail link. The nearest station is 1.2 miles away.

Larnaca in Cyprus: Larnaca is a picturesque sea-front city which comes to life during major festivals. The most important of these for the area is Kataklysmos or the Festival of the Flood, celebrated in early summer with a series of cultural events. See Haringey's flood festival here

Sundyberg in Sweden: Well, this place is seemingly so insignificant there was very little information to be found. Very unlike Haringey, surely?
