A MAN was last night being questioned by murder squad detectives following the death of a four-year-old girl.

Twenty-one-year-old Peter Seaton was arrested at an address in his home town of Northallerton, North Yorkshire, in connection with the death of Leticia Aalayah Wright.

Leticia, of Almondbury Park, Huddersfield, died in hospital in the early hours of last Sunday after being admitted the previous evening with multiple injuries.

Her mother, 22-year-old Sharon Wright, has already been charged with causing or allowing the death of a child. She appeared before Huddersfield Magistrates' Court on Wednesday when she was refused bail and remanded in custody to appear at Bradford Crown Court next Wednesday.

Police from West and North Yorkshire arrested Mr Seaton in Northallerton on Wednesday night and he was taken to Huddersfield for questioning.

He is understood to have been the former boyfriend of Leticia's mother and the couple are thought to have split up recently.

Police are known to have visited several addresses in Northallerton since last Saturday night before arresting him at a so far undisclosed address in the town on Wednesday evening.

Leticia and her mother were originally from Huddersfield, but had moved away and only returned to the town, where they lived in a terraced house, three months ago.

The death of the four-year-old shocked neighbours and was described by the senior police officer leading the inquiry, Detective Superintendent Paul Taylor, earlier this week as a "shocking crime".

Local people described Leticia as a happy little girl who was often seen waving and smiling to passers-by out of a window.

One said: "It's absolutely terrible. I don't think there is anything worse than a tragedy involving the loss of a child."

Police have so far declined to give details of the child's injuries. She was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary on Saturday night after some of her immediate family called for an ambulance but she died shortly after midnight.
