How about a festival of diversity, or perhaps "harmony", for the city of Brighton and Hove?
Many nations and cultures have contributed to Brighton and Hove life and have made it the tolerant and diverse city it is - an example to the whole world of how people of many nations can live together in harmony.
During the course of history, Jews, French refugees, Irish and Welsh labourers and, in later times, Poles and others from central and eastern Europe have made an enormous contribution to the city's life.
Why not devote a week each year showing with pride our diverse cultures and the contribution they have made to our history and development?
There could be exhibitions, processions, folk dancing in the streets and a celebratory rally in Preston Park to be addressed by the mayor and other city worthies.
- Rev John Webster, Wilfrid Road, Hove
