SOUTH East schoolboy boxing champion Ryan Barrett continued his winning ways with an impressive display in the semi-final of the regional senior U51kg competition.

The 16-year-old Eltham and District BC member stopped his opponent Francis Hartley, from St Mary's, Chatham in the first round of his bout at the Sandwich Leisure Centre. Ryan has received a bye through to the quarter-finals of the national competition and has been selected for an England versus Russia schoolboys international at Old Trafford, Manchester, in March.

Other Eltham boxers on the Sandwich bill were Rikki Askew and Tommy Young. Askew was unlucky to lose his intermediate 57kg fight to Eddie Ives from the Golden Gloves club in Medway on a majority decision. However, Young was overpowered by Mark Wright, also of Golden Gloves, the judges unanimously giving it to the Medway fighter.
