HIGH Wycombe cycling club's juniors had mixed fortunes in the 70-mile National Junior Road Race Championships held on the tough Dorton Circuit near Long Crendon on Sunday.

Torrential rain made the course even tougher with half of the 60-strong field calling it a day by the half-way stage.

Simon Henley, who was sick at the 50-mile point as the tackled one of the tough climbs, fell away from the leaders after that and eventually pulled out.

Clubmate Tom Crouch, who lost contact with the main pack after only eight miles, battled on to finish last, one lap down on the 24 other finishers.

This coming weekend, the pair are in action again when they ride in the Junior Tour of Wales as members of the West Thames Division team.

Henley is hoping to improve on the 25th place he clocked in last year's event.
