SCHOOLS and churches are being encouraged to remember the victims of road traffic accidents.

Sunday is World Remembrance Day for Road Victims.

Bexley Council is hoping there will be services and school assemblies or events where pupils can talk about the issues.

In Britain, more than 3,000 people die and another 400,000 are injured in road accidents every year.

The day is being promoted by the charity RoadPeace to remember victims and their families, the emergency services and others who deal with road accidents.

Council cabinet member for transport Councillor Peter Craske said: "Crashes can be devastating for victims and their families.

"This day of remembrance gives us all an opportunity to think about the terrible toll of death and injury on the roads.

"I urge all road users to remember to take extra care and avoid the agony a road crash causes to everyone involved."
