UNORTHODOX Bexley cleric Jonathan Blake may have courted more controversy with his appearance in a BBC television programme on gay marriage.
The Rev Blake, from Welling, is a former Church of England vicar who set up his own Open Episcopal Church, after falling out with the Anglican hierarchy.
Now a self-appointed bishop, he featured on BBC 1's Inside Out series on Monday night which followed the wedding preparations of a gay couple.
The Rev Blake, who advertises his services to gay and lesbian couples as well as heterosexuals, has agreed to conduct the wedding ceremony for the couple at a golf club in Milton Keynes.
The Rev Blake, formerly the vicar of St Martin's Church in Barnehurst, now lives with his second wife Annette and their two young children.
He said: "I think people assume religion and Christianity is all about the majority and what is respectable.
"But you only have to look at Jesus's life to see what he was dealing with wasn't respectable, so much so, he was crucified for it."
