EFFORTS are being made in High Wycombe to help the survivors of the horrific earthquake that has shaken both India and the Hindu community around the world.

Rescuers are still pulling bodies from the rubble after Friday's quake which killed more than 20,000, with tens of thousands of people still missing.

Hindus are planning on special prayers for the Western state of Gujarat at the Sikh Temple in High Wycombe on Sunday.

Sarup Seehra, president of the Sikh Temple, in Brook Street, said: "This is just a tragedy which has had devastating effects.

"We have already had a collection for those who have died and those who are still are suffering."

Members of the International Rescue Core, some from Buckinghamshire, are still in India working in blistering temperatures to help those who are trapped and to help provide basics like food and blankets for survivors.

A 24-hour donation line has been set up by the charity World Vision, which has been helping in Gujarat since Saturday, providing survivors with food, shelter and blankets.
