100 Years Ago December 8, 1906 We regret to see that there is a falling off in the income of Pershore Cottage Hospital, and trust that this is only temporary, as this exceedingly useful institution cannot possibly perform all the work of which it is capable if it is cramped for money. It is gratifying to learn that there is a slight increase in subscriptions and donations of patients, which shows that those who have benefited at the hospital are appreciative. There is, however, a falling off in the annual subscriptions, which is far from satisfactory, and the Committee are going to make an effort to bring the amount back to the figure at which they originally stood, even if they do not surpass it.

75 Years Ago December 5, 1931 Another enthusiastic meeting of the Offenham Discussion Society was held at Avoncroft College on Wednesday night, when a record attendance was made, there being thirty-four members present. Mr. J. Hall jun., of Bretforton, opened the discussion on "Sprouts," and he gave an excellent account of what he considered were the main points to watch in growing sprouts successfully. He illustrated his remarks with some very good stems grown by himself. A most interesting and lively discussion followed, and many valuable points were brought out. It was agreed by all that the meeting was an unqualified success. A most gratifying feature of these meetings is that so many members come several miles to attend.

50 Years Ago December 7, 1956 Saying that Evesham Town Council would surely court public criticism for its plans to remove the 19th century bandstand from Workman Gardens, Coun. Oliver Morgan sought an assurance at Wednesday's meeting of the Council that the bandstand was really dangerous and must be demolished in the public interest. "There is an enormous interest locally, and attachment to that bandstand," Coun. Morgan said. Coun. O.F. Grove, chairman of the Cemeteries and Parks Committee, said members were definitely of the opinion that the bandstand must come down owing to its condition. "There is no flooring-it is rotten," he said. "Some of the woodwork of the ceiling is also rotten. The cost of repair would be a great deal."
