PLANS to build a new home in a garden at a home in Malvern's Conservation Area have been met by opposition from residents, who say it would be out of keeping with the area and seriously affect wildlife.

The scheme relates to 7 Newtown Road and Malvern Hills District Council has had a total of 20 representations over the plans, with objections being raised on the subsequent loss of trees seriously affecting wildlife.

They also say the access is unsuitable to serve as a means of access to any further development, the proposed home would dominate many of the surrounding properties and is an over-development of the site.

Concerns have also been raised about drainage as a sewerage pipe crosses the site and that it would result in a loss of privacy.

The application site is reached by a track and road that is shared with the entrance to a pay and display car park at Link Top in the town and has a number of mature trees on it, in addition to several recently-erected sheds. A total of six of the trees on site would be chopped down as part of the scheme.

Planning officers say the proposal would have no adverse effect on the biodiversity of the site and that the impact on the amenity of neighbouring properties is considered to be acceptable.

They are recommending the scheme is granted subject to several conditions, including one that the applicants submit details of drainage before the works start.

The scheme is set to be determined at a meeting of the council's southern area development control committee at 7pm tomorrow.
