YORK's Ladies got their North Eastern Indoor Bowls League campaign off to a great start beating Scarborough 95-64.

They won three rinks enabling them to collect eight of the ten points at stake.

At home Ella Armitt, led her rink in fine style as they stormed into a 16-0 lead after winning the first five ends.

They maintained their dominance to eventually win 33-10.

At Thanet Road, Kath Pepper hit back with a six on the third end to lead 6-2 against Diane Stockill's four, though Stockill showed her experience and turned the game round to lead 16-11 after 13 ends. The game turned again as the home side won the next three ends to draw level at 16-16. Pepper's team led 20-18 with one end to play, Stockill's side could only pick up a single and lost an exciting game by one shot.

At Scarborough, Pat Bracken's four had a tough start losing 9-1 after only five ends, then from the eighth end through to the 17th Bracken's side went on a fantastic run only losing one end and had the game won at 24-11.

In the other rink, Margaret Smith's side had a bad first half and were trailing 10-3 to Dot Delve's team but then Smith came back and reduced the score to 13-5 before the home side put the game beyond doubt to win 21-15.

New Earswick's game against Doncaster was called off.

The Yorkshire Indoor Bowling Association have decided to revamp the Hebden Trophy.

Instead of teams being split into two sections, all 11 teams will play each other once.

This gets under way on Saturday when York entertain Selby, though New Earswick's game has been cancelled.

The Yorkshire League has also been brought forward by four weeks to spread out the fixtures more, and starts on Saturday with York entertaining Thornaby in the first division. However, New Earswick's clash against Hornsea has been called off.

In the Yorkshire Ladies League, York face Selby while New Earswick play Barnsley. All the games start at 12 noon.
