MP Since - 2005 Majority - 3,569 Born - 27/07/1960. Married, 1 daughter & 2 sons.
Education - Church of England Secondary Modern, Guildford; Burlington Danes; University of Kent, Canterbury.
Previous Occupation - Barrister.
Personal Overview - New entrant from 2005 whose political experience is as a Labour Party campaigner. She was brought up by her single mother on a Guildford council estate and progressed through the education system to become a Barrister. Her Chambers are headed by Michael Mansfield the prominent human rights barrister. Amongst her most prominent cases were serving as Counsel to the inquest of Wayne Douglas' death in police custody, and the shooting of Diarmuid O'Neil. She has been a TGWU member since the early 1980s. Held onto her seat from retiring Labour MP Chris Smith despite an exceptionally strong Liberal Democrat challenge. Held her seat in 2010 and gained a junior opposition role early in the new parliament and was promoted to became Shadow Attorney General at the October 2011 reshuffle.

Personal Overview - Elected to the European Parliament from third place on the London Conservative Party list. Has been involved running a small business for over 23 years with experience negotiating in in Europe on behalf of her UK clients. She has campaigned to reduce regulation on business, reducing EU waste and fraud and on the sensible managing of migration. She also has experience raising funds for charity, as a former Chair of the Mayor of Barnet's Charity Appeal 2005/06 raising money for the mental health charity MIND.
