    Skolars in Cougars mauling

    Keighley Cougars 58 London Skolars 12 . . .

    Co-Operative National League 2 . . .

SKOLARS suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Keighley on Bank Holiday Monday.

After an early breakaway try from Ryan Smith from halfway opened the scoring, it took a piece of luck to start the Cougars rolling, Brendon Rawlins scoring after a high kick had taken a nasty bounce.

Skolars scored through a Paul Thorman penalty, but penalties at the other end saw Keighley quickly add tries for Rawlins and Richard Knight.

Skolars tried to put pressure on, but a kick saw Jon Pressley take the ball and race 70 metres for the fifth try of the half.

Things got worse for Skolars after the restart, when Puna Rasaubale was sin-binned. Prop forward Rawlins added two more tries, and his fellow forwards Knight and Neil Lowe also scored whilst Skolars were down to 12 men.

It was also a prop that scored for Skolars, Wayne Kerr forcing his way over. The Irish International then showed great pace, breaking from halfway, but he couldn't quite continue the run and, inevitably, the home side responded with a try for George Raynor.

Thorman converted his own try late on in the game, but Skolars will be grateful for a break in the fixture list this weekend to regather their spirits.
