New Muswell Hill bus stop to improve access to Hornsey Health Centre
12:52pm Thursday 25th October 2012 in News By Hermione Wright
A trial bus stop is due to be installed in Muswell Hill to improve access to a new health centre.
The new stop for the southbound bus route W7, which travels between Muswell Hill and Finsbury Park, will be outside Boots Chemist on the north side of the roundabout in Muswell Hill Broadway.
Haringey Borough Council will install the stop on Saturday, November 10, as some elderly and disabled people found it difficult to reach Hornsey Health Centre in Park Road using public transport.
The stop, which will be in use for a six month trial, will prevent people from having to walk down the slope of Muswell Hill to catch the W7, which stops at the health centre.
The council hopes the trial period will establish whether it is safe and practical for the stop to be installed permanently.
Councillor Nilgun Canver, cabinet member for the environment, said: "I hope this trial is successful. We have been keen to address the access problems for a long time but safety concerns must be fully considered.
“We have looked for alternatives to moving the bus stop to this location but none were feasible.
"This trial is the best way of checking whether a permanent new stop is possible, but we will be mindful of the safety concerns of both drivers and pedestrians."
She said the trial will end early if "serious safety issues" are identified.
