A community project leader was given a prestigious honour by The Prince of Wales at national award ceremony.

Jay Kamiraz, 33, from Crouch Hill, was crowned The Prince’s Trust Young Achiever at the Pride of Britain Awards in London last night.

He was presented the award by Prince’s Trust ambassador Pierce Brosnan and Prince Charles.

He said: “To win the Young Achiever award is so special to me and I can’t thank The Prince’s Trust enough.

“I am so happy that I was able to personally thank Prince Charles for changing my life and all of the other thousands of young people The Trust has helped.

“I hope my story will inspire other young people that they can achieve their dreams, too.”

Mr Kamiraz first came in contact with The Prince’s Trust after he was viciously attacked at the age of 17.

Working with the trust he was able to get his life back on track and got involved in a project to raise money for Tsunami victims, bringing together singers to form a choir called Souls of Prophecy Gospel Choir.

Since then the choir has gone from strength to strength and with the help of the Prince’s Trust he was able to turn it into a business.
