College students get school pupils excited about science and engineering

College students helped deliver interactive workshops to school pupils promoting science and engineering.

The students from College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London helped with the workshops which showed off the world’s fastest car to 250 primary and 100 secondary school pupils.

The car, part of the Bloodhound Supersonic Car Project, was on display with a driving simulator which gave pupils the experience of driving at 1000mph with the help from ambassadors from the college.

Ambassador Mustafa Hersi who helped over the two-day event said: “It’s been a fascinating two days.

“We have learnt a lot about robotics, engineering and scientific research but also got the chance to pass our knowledge onto young people, which has been really rewarding.”

Principal and chief executive of the college Paul Head said: “We’re contributing to the next generation of engineering it’s been a fantastic experience for students and young people from across the borough.

“Everyone enjoyed the workshops and our Ambassadors performed extremely well, delivering an exemplary service.”

The Bloodhound Supersonic Car is designed to travel at 1000mph and when travelling at full speed will produce more than 135,000 horsepower.
