West Ham United to investigate racist chanting aimed at Spurs fans

West Ham say they will take the strongest possible action against any of their fans involved in racist chanting aimed at Spurs supporters.

The announcement comes after West Ham fans were heard singing songs about Hitler and chanting in support of Lazio at the game on Sunday at White Hart Lane.

In a statement, a West Ham spokesman said: "West Ham United are in contact with Tottenham Hotspur to assist them with their investigation into the conduct of a small number of supporters and alleged inappropriate chanting during yesterday's match at White Hart Lane.

“West Ham United will take the strongest possible action against any of their supporters, including enforcing life bans from the club, who are found guilty of behaviour which is categorically not condoned by West Ham United.”

They added that during the 46 games in the Championship last season the club had no arrests for racism or violence, and will examine any available evidence of such conduct thoroughly and take the appropriate action.

As previously reported by the Haringey Independent the chanting came days after a Tottenham fan was stabbed in Rome before Spurs’ Europa League clash with the Italian side last week.

Earlier today The Football Association confirmed it will investigate anti-Semitic chants made by West Ham fans during the match against Spurs on Sunday.
