Video game designers rank high in national competition

Creating computerised images of one of the ruined cities of the ancient world has won two students top places in a national competition.

Dominic Esprit and Michael Elesheku, game design and animation students from the College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London, scored highly in the finals of the World Skills UK Games Development Competition.

The pair were given two and a half days to create a computer image of the ancient city of Ur, battling it out against designers from five other colleges from around the country.

Mr Elesheku, who was awarded bronze for his design at the finals at the Birmingham NEC, said: “It was a great event and I’m really proud of my result.”

Mr Esprit was placed just outside the top three and said: “The competition provided the perfect opportunity to see what it is like working as a 3D modeller.”

The pair’s tutor, Garfield Gordon, who was at the finals at the end of last month, said: "It was a fantastic outcome for Dominic and Michael.

“They enjoyed the competition and applied themselves to a very high standard. It was a great showcase for the games development industry."
