Haringey Borough Council to vote on council tax benefit changes tonight

Changes to council tax benefit will be decided at a public meeting this evening.

Haringey Borough Council will vote on its new council tax benefit scheme which could mean every household of working age will have to pay something towards their council tax bill.

The changes are due to the Government abolishing the current benefit from April 1 this year and control of the benefit is being given to local authorities.

Under Haringey council plans, those who currently receive 100 per cent council tax benefit will have to pay almost 20 per cent of their full council tax bill.

The meeting of the full council with take place this evening at the Haringey Civic Centre, in High Road Wood Green, from 7.30pm.
