An MP has welcomed the announcement people in her constituency can claim cold weather payments following a week of freezing weather.
Due to the extended cold weather the Government’s cold weather payment has been triggered, meaning vulnerable people can claim extra money to pay for heating bills.
MP for Wood Green and Hornsey, Lynne Featherstone, said: “I’m glad that during these really cold periods, the Government is giving vulnerable residents extra money to cover the cost of their energy bills.”
She added if anyone was having trouble getting their payment they should contact her team.
The payments automatically go to those on Pension Credit and many other income-related benefits with people able to claim an additional £25 to keep people warm.
People living in the constituency of Wood Green and Hornsey can claim the money following seven days of weather with an average of 0C or below.
