Mayor of London calls for pensioners in Haringey to claim benefits
9:21am Friday 25th January 2013 in News By Bruce Thain
Mayor Boris Johnson is calling on pensioners to claim benefits that are rightfully theirs.
Up to 5,000 people in Haringey could be entitled to pensioner credits and the Mayor of London is calling on people to claim as part of the Know Your Rights campaign.
Pensioners could be missing out on a possible £35 a week in benefits and carers could also be missing out on allowance payments which can be more than £55.
Boris Johnson said: “As temperatures plummet many households face extra pressure on their budgets as their fuel bills increase.
“I would urge pensioners to pick up the phone and make one simple call to check they are receiving all the financial support they are entitled to.”
The campaign was launched last year by Age UK London, Citizens Advice and the Carers Trust.
People are able to find out if they are able to get extra credit by calling Citizens Advice Bureaux or Age UK.
