School pupils took part in a world record attempt today to bring together the most people writing a story at the same time.

Year 7 and Year 8 pupils from Heartlands High School, in Station Road, Wood Green, joined with thousands of other children across the country to try and break the record to mark National Libraries day.

Pupils used a first paragraph written by author Matt Haig and then had to write a sentence each to continue the story.

Children’s writer Sita Brahamachari, of Victoria Road, Wood Green, was an independent witness to the attempt.

The award-winning author said: “I think this is a great event and it really gets all the pupils interested in writing and being creative.

It shows a lot of them what it takes to be writer but it makes it fun which really important."

Fellow witness, Bernadette Brewster of Haringey library services said: “I think it’s great to get kids involved and excited in writing.”

After the event all 130 schools around the country will have to send in their finished stories to the Guinness World Records to be officially adjudicated. Schools will find out if they are record breakers during the coming months.
