MP David Lammy gives talk at youth unemployment conference in Tottenham

Young people have joined employers and politicians at a conference to discuss tackling youth unemployment.

The event took place at Tottenham Town Hall last week and included a key note speech from David Lammy, who told the audience that up to 55 per cent of young black men in London were out of work.

He added: “We need to take action on ground level and work with local organisations familiar with the community.”

Aaron Carson, 25, one of the young people to speak at the event, said: “Young people looking for work are at a key point in their life when they have lots of choices to make.

“For me, things only really worked out when someone helped me make the right decisions.”

More than 130 people from employers, business, youth groups and housing associations attended the event organised by charity Newlon Fusion on Thursday February 14.
