More than 1,300 in Haringey caught dodging television licences
11:46am Thursday 21st February 2013 in News By Bruce Thain
More than 1,300 people in the borough were caught watching TV without a licence last year.
The number for Haringey is low compared to the thousands caught dodging the fee in the neighbouring boroughs of Enfield, where 2,900 did not pay, and Waltham Forest where 2,000 were caught.
TV Licensing says despite the high numbers caught, the overwhelming majority of people do ensure they are correctly licensed.
Spokeswoman Victoria Sykes said: “In order to be fair to the law-abiding majority who do pay for their licence, we’ll continue to pursue the small minority of people do not pay.”
People have a number of ways they are able to pay the £145.50 charge for their colour television licence including ash payment plans, a savings card or a monthly direct debit scheme.
