Police give presentation on Taser roll out Police give presentation on Taser roll out

Police have given a presentation to members of the community about the roll out of tasers in the borough.

Sergeant Andy Harding of the Metropolitan Police's Territorial Support Group tonight spoke to councillors and leaders of community groups about issuing the electronic devices to officers in Haringey.

The taser is used to incapacitate potentially dangerous offenders from a distance and reduce the risk to themselves, members of the public and officers.

People were told about the policy, under which 40 police response officers from the borough will be issued with tasers over coming months.

There were also details of the training required for those who will be issued with the devices.

Officers in Haringey and the rest of London will start using the stun gun during the coming year.
