Investigation launched after banana thrown at Tottenham Hotspur player Gareth Bale

An investigation has been launched by police after a banana was thrown at Tottenham Hotspur player Gareth Bale during the north London derby against Arsenal.

The incident happened during Sunday’s match at White Hart Lane as the Spurs midfielder was about to take a corner.

A spokesman for the Met said: "Police are investigating after a banana was thrown on to the pitch from the away section of supporters during the Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal match at White Hart Lane on Sunday, March 3.

“There have been no arrests. Enquiries continue to try to identify the suspect."

Spurs were victorious in the derby, beating their north London rivals 2-1.
