New community film club opens in Tottenham

Movie buffs launching a community film club showcasing world cinema say it will be the start of a social movement.

The new Tottenham World Film Club has been funded by the Film London's Community Pilot Fund which is supported by the BFI.

The club is run by volunteers, with monthly screenings and talks from directors who discuss their work.

Founder Justin Lyle said: "The club is much more than a screening series. It’s the beginning of a social movement bringing people together around great films and music.

"We are creating a model of vibrant, diverse and rooted social space."

Volunteers will also help run workshops giving budding filmmakers the chance to learn new skills.

Mr Lyle added: "Film London's pilot fund has helped us offer volunteers practical training in film exhibition and documentary production, and we are determined to build this into an exciting fixture in Tottenham's cultural landscape."
