Homeowners rights under threat says Haringey Housing Action group
4:08pm Tuesday 19th March 2013 in News By Bruce Thain
Changes to benefits will undermine the housing rights of thousands of people in the borough, a community action group has warned.
Haringey Housing Action held a public information event to help inform people about their rights and how they can secure their homes.
More than 60 people attended the event at Wood Green Library on Saturday, where they were able to find out how they will be affected by coming changes to benefits.
Matt Salusbury from Haringey Housing Action said: "The housing rights of tens of thousands of Haringey residents are being undermined by unacceptable Government-driven changes - benefit cuts, the bedroom tax, soaring private rents, lack of council housing and so on.
“We call on everyone to demand decent, secure, affordable, local homes for all."
There were also a number of stalls offering information to people on tenants rights, changes to housing benefit, legal advice and support for those threatened with homelessness.
