Enterprise Inns would welcome bid for Antwerp Arms, Tottenham, from the community
A pub company looking to sell a 161-year-old tavern in Tottenham has said it would welcome an offer to buy it from the local community.
Enterprise Inns, who own the Antwerp Arms in Church Road, made the statements after and application to have the pub declared an asset of community value by the Antwerp Arms Association.
The campaign group trying to save the pub hope that it will become a hub for the community.
A spokesman from the taverns currents owners said the pub no longer has a long-term future in their estate.
She said: “As part of our ongoing business, we do from time to time identify a pub which may no longer have a long-term future in our estate.
“After careful consideration, the decision was taken to sell the Antwerp Arms.
“The freehold remains on the open market with the benefit of its premises license and no restrictions on future use, inviting offers from any interested parties, including the local community group.”
If the building is successfully listed as an asset the council must be made aware of any decision to sell it.
The authority can then initiate a holding period of between six weeks and six months should the community group wish to buy the pub.
Members of the group are considering organising a shared ownership scheme so people in the community can buy shares of the much loved establishment.
