Pupils at Bounds Green Infant school praised for outstanding behaviour
A school has been praised for the fantastic behaviour of its pupils by Ofsted inspectors.
Bounds Green Infant School was praised for making good progress overall – with pupils’ behaviour singled out as ‘outstanding’ in a report published this month.
The Bounds Green Road school was given a ‘satisfactory’ rating in 2010, but staff, parents and governors have worked hard to secure significant improvement.
Inspectors said the school was “a caring community where pupils are included in everything the school has to offer”.
The report paid tribute to headteacher Will Wawn and senior staff for "strong" leadership that has promoted a steady increase in the quality of teaching and pupils’ standards.
The report describes the behaviour and safety of pupils as ‘outstanding’ and said: “Pupils are polite and friendly in a warm atmosphere where relationships are strong.
“Even on one of the hottest days of the year they worked happily together, co-operating in small groups and in pairs without fuss.
“Their attitudes to their learning are excellent and pupils are very eager to learn.”
The report also acknowledged that teaching was typically good with very positive relationships with pupils.
It added that pupils achieved well and make good progress in English and mathematics and especially in writing.
The schools uses additional funding well to raise standards, particularly for pupils eligible for the pupil premium, said the report.
Governors were also praised for being well informed and providing a good balance of support and challenge.
The report said they regularly check on how well the school is doing in helping pupils to make good progress.
Mr Wawn said: “The report shows consistency with our junior school Ofsted report that was also judged as ‘good’ with outstanding features.
“It is testimony to the hard work and commitment of our staff, the unceasing support from parents and families – and most importantly – the fantastic children we have at Bounds Green.
“The report, quite rightly, highly commends the children in terms of their behaviour and attitudes at the end of a long, hot and tiring academic year and this ‘outstanding’ judgement is a credit to them.”
