More than 150 people presented Haringey Borough Council with a petition supporting plans to expand a school for children with cerebral palsy.

The London Centre for Children with Cerebral Palsy (LCCCP) wants to build new premises so it can more than double the number of children attending its school in Muswell Hill and provide more classes for Year 9 pupils and those taking their GCSEs.

The scheme also includes housing, and the charity has gathered signatures of people living nearby who support the scheme in a petition.

The wording of the petition states: “We, the undersigned, support The London Centre for Children with Cerebral Palsy’s planned redevelopment of their school and in new premises at 56 Muswell Hill that will double its existing space and provide state-of-the-art facilities.

“We believe that the plans, part of a mixed residential development which takes in the former Green Man pub and LCCCP’s current site at the rear of the former pub, will benefit some of the most vulnerable children in Haringey and across London.”

It adds that the people who signed the document are "delighted" by the plans including the demolition of the existing night club premises at the rear of the Green Man, and claims the building has been the source of considerable anti-social behaviour over recent years.

The centre's chief executive Marc Crank said: "The new school premises will make an enormous difference to our work.

“It will enable us to help more children and their families, including teenagers, as well as provide for Parkinson's and stroke rehabilitation groups.

“This will be a great facility for Haringey and the local community and we are very grateful for all the support that we have received from local residents."

People who would like to sign the petition and support the plans can meet representatives from LCCCP at the Crouch End Christmas Fair on Saturday, December 7, 2013.
