A community group in Tottenham turned up the volume to create a carnival atmosphere as part of festive celebrations.

The Youth Entertainment Sound System (YESS), which works with teenager to create music and dance performances, brought their work to Tottenham High Road for the town's winter carnival yesterday afternoon.

A booming sound system on the back of truck brought entertainment to the streets as the parade marched towards Wood Green.

Organised by YESS and People’s World, co-ordinator Sally Sturgeon said: “The parade is a wonderful way to unite young people from Tottenham through to Wood Green. We want to show that Tottenham still has so much to offer.”

Costumes brought to mind the Notting Hill carnival and the Mayor of Tottenham Cllr Sheila Peacock showed her support by riding the parade truck.

Ms Sturgeon added: “It has taken six weeks of hard work and effort to organise this and we are so glad we have been allowed to do this again.

“Our costumes came second at the Notting Hill carnival in the youth section and we are really proud to be able to offer people a place to express themselves.”

Around 40 people walked with the parade bus as it went through Tottenham into Wood Green.
