Haringey Borough Council has announced it is ready to grit the roads as temperatures tumble towards freezing.

During severe weather the council’s gritters will be out in force keeping the most heavily-used parts of Haringey’s 211 miles of roads and pavements flowing.

As part of the borough’s winter service plan, the council said it will ensure major priority routes – including streets around schools, transport hubs, shopping areas and care homes – are treated and cleared first.

Residents are advised to keep up to date with weather forecasts, allow more time and plan journeys in case of bad weather, and leave the car at home in heavy snow or floods if possible.
