Tottenham Hotspur fans spoke of their disappointment after they were only allocated 5,186 seats for the club’s clash against Arsenal.

Spurs had applied for the full 15 per cent quota of 9,000 seats to be given during the north London derby, on Saturday, January 4, but the request was denied.

Arsenal claimed there were safety and security concerns on the stand's upper tier and said it could only allocate 8.64 per cent of the seats.

Tottenham subsequently requested an extended allocation in the lower tier but was told that this was not possible due to segregation and safety issues.

In a statement on the club's website, it said: “We appreciate that this will mean that many of our supporters will not be able to attend this fixture but unfortunately the host club has stated it is impossible to increase the allocation offered to us for this fixture.

“In the event of a replay taking place at White Hart Lane, Arsenal will be provided with a reduced allocation equivalent to the percentage that we have received at the Emirates Stadium.”

The Spurs Supporters Trust tweeted that it was “disappointed” by the decision.

In a statment, the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Trust said: "We have filed Freedom of Information applications with both the Met and Islington Council to ascertain how this decision was reached, particularly in light of Chelsea, Newcastle & Leeds receiving full allocations for recent cup ties at The Emirates.

"We're hugely disappointed that almost 4,000 of our fans will now miss the chance to see Tottenham play away in a north London derby.

"We're also concerned by the pricing for this game, compared to recent cup ties at Arsenal. £62 a ticket is unacceptably high for a third round tie."

The supporters trust is campaigning with Liverpool's Spirit of Shankly regarding ticket pricing ahead of Spurs Premier League game on Sunday, as an aside.
