A human organ was lost for ten months by Haringey Borough Council’s mortuary services, it was revealed in March.

The body part went missing in the Haringey Mortuary, in Church Lane, Tottenham, in May 2011 and was only discovered in March 2012.

In another incident, the mortuary services found an organ after it had released a body to relatives, but failed to report the matter to the Human Tissue Authority (HTA) by the required deadline.

A council spokesman acknowledged that there have been some issues with the mortuary in the past but a full action plan had been put into place to address the failings.

Also in March, 20-year-old Ibrahim Ali was stabbed to death in Stamford Close near Broad Lane, Tottenham, after a party.

The former Park View school student was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital.

His 21-year-old sister, Faduma Ali, told the Haringey Independent his death had a “devastating” effect on the family.

She said: “Our home just feels so empty, like something is mission. When I wake up I think it’s all a nightmare, but then I see the messages and realise it’s all true.”

At the start of the month, Councillor Alan Strickland entered into talks with the Miami-based auction house to track down the owners of a Banksy mural that vanished from Wood Green in February.

The negotiations were part of a campaign to get work, called Slave Labour, returned to the people of Haringey.
