A 41-year-old woman got into the Christmas spirit to raise money for people affected by the most powerful typhoon in recorded history.

Patrisha Chinwada, a training development consultant from Wood Green, ran the Clapham Common Nativity Fun Run in aid of the Catholic aid agency CAFOD, on Saturday.

The 41-year-old joined more than 300 angels, wise men and shepherds running the 5km route.

She completed the course in a time of 32 minutes and 36 seconds.

All the money raised will go towards emergency relief efforts in the devastated Philippines Islands following typhoon Haiyan.

Mrs Chinwada, who dressed up as a shepherd for the run, said: “The atmosphere was fantastic with everyone dressed up and lots of people cheering us all on.

“I’m just starting to get back into running so I was a bit tired after 3km but kept going.

“I wasn’t going to dress up at first but I’m glad I did enter into the spirit of it. It’s so nice to run for something worthwhile, it inspires me more.”

Last year the run raised more than £4,000, which helped pay for treatment such as vaccinations for children and pre and post natal care for hundreds of mothers and babies.
