Deafblind people took part in an “awe-inspiring” experimental music performance in Finsbury Park.
National charity Sense held sound workshops over a ten-week period at the Park Theatre, to help deafblind people explore the way people engage with music using other senses.
The ten participants improvised with synthesizers, microphones, bass, drums and experimented with hand-held vibrating machines.
They then held a performance, entitled How in the World Do We Know at the theatre last week.
Musician Matt Lewis, who ran the workshop, said: “Working with the group, both deafblind people and their carers over the past few months was awe-inspiring.
“Most of the participants had no background in music, but the personal instrumental techniques and virtuosic moments that emerged from the sessions show that the possibilities offered by any musical environment are as wide and varied for those with disabilities than those without.
“To talk in terms of ability in relation to music seems beside the point.”
