People have insisted their area is safe despite the suspicious death of a 42-year old woman.

A 43-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident, which took place in Elizabeth Browning House, Wood Green on Thursday, December 19.

Police were called to reports of a woman found unconscious, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.

A 49-year-old woman, who lives in the block of flats, who did not want to be named, said: “I got up at 4am and was having my breakfast when I heard all the sirens and chaos outside.

“It’s surprising because you don’t expect these things but it does not really worry me.”

A 31-year-old teacher at a nearby primary school said: “It worries me a bit because the kids have to walk this way to get to school but it is a fine area.”

The entrance onto Progress Way was taped off during Thursday morning and three police officers were seen entering the building on Friday throughout the day to examine the scene.

Despite the death, residents insisted the area was safe. One woman who did not want to be named said: “It’s fine around here. It does not really worry me at all.”
