A nightclub could be forced to close after it lost its licence following a string of mass brawls between customers.

Club 56, also known as Eden Venue, in Muswell Hill, has had its license revoked after Haringey police found it was associated with serious crime or disorder.

Haringey Borough Council launched a full review of the situation during a meeting of its licensing sub-committee on Monday, January 13.

Members of the committee were shown CCTV footage from December 14 of serious public disorder at the venue with many clubbers fighting and using bottles as weapons.

A similar outbreak of public disorder happened in December 2012 which resulted in the club’s licence being suspended.

The committee heard that the licensee had failed to consistently comply with a number of previously imposed improvement measures in the time leading up to December’s disorder.

Club 56 breeched its licence by failing to notify and provide in advance the relevant documentation required for event hire.

It also used an inadequate number of door supervisors and failure to carry out ID card checks scanning for customers coming into the premises.

During the committee meeting councillors and licensing enforcement officers listened to representations from the police and the club’s owners.

It was determined that the licence holder had not consistently fully complied with the terms of his licence.

Committee members also agreed that placing further conditions on the licence would be unlikely to lead to improvements.

It was decided that the licence should therefore be revoked.

The licence holder has 21 days to lodge an appeal with the Magistrates’ Court against the decision by the licensing committee.

However the premises must remain closed until the outcome of any appealed lodged.

Well if you can't have a mass brawl in a nightclub where on earth can you?
