Hundreds of teenagers turned out to hear speakers from Channel 4, Capital Xtra, BBC and Kick it Out give advice on how to turn their dreams into a reality.

Inspirational YOU organised the Inspire Youth day at the College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London (CONEL) yesterday.

Speakers included Channel 4’s industry talent specialist Priscilla Baffour, comedian Kojo, documentary photographer Kevin Morosky and Haringey Police's borough commander Chief Superintendent Victor Olisa.

Ms Baffour told the audience they would have to have guts and perservence if they wanted to make it in the television industry.

She said: “If you want to get into media just do it. Don’t dither – go for it.

“The key bit of advice is to do your research, then you need to put in some effort and be persistent.

“You are in the big bad world. One thing I found really useful was doing work experience from when I was really young. This really helped me build up my skills and portfolio.”

The event will run from 1pm to 7.30pm and was held in partnership with Metropolitan Homes, CONEL and Positive Youth News Haringey (PYNH).

Nali Moftizadeh, 20, of PYNH, said: “Today’s been really successful. Lots of people came and asked lots of questions and we got to spread the word.

“Events like these are really important for young people and just by being here and getting to meet some of the speakers will hopefully affect them in a positive way.

“As a young person I think people my age should make the most of these opportunities and get as many tips to make sure they succeed in their future.”
