A pensioner has been rushed to hospital in a critical condition after he was hit by a lorry on a busy road.

Police, ambulance services and firefighters were called to Harringay Green Lanes at 10.26am following reports of an accident.

The victim, 78, was taken to hospital by air ambulance and remains in a critical condition.

The road at the junction with Cavendish Road was closed while police tried to determine the cause of the accident.

Bus routes 29, 141, 341, and W5 were diverted and drivers complained of queues as far back as Manor House and Turnpike Lane.

The road has now been reopened and traffic is beginning to return to normal.
