Heroin addict couple banned from Palace Gates housing estate in Wood Green

A pair of heroin addicts who frightened residents of a sheltered housing scheme with their unruly behaviour have been barred from a Wood Green street.

David Wilkinson and girlfriend Joanne Larner were involved in a heated argument at Palace Gates, in Braemar Avenue, last November, where they traded insults and hurled vile language at one another in front of shocked residents.

When officers from Haringey Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Action Team (ASBAT) interviewed residents, they said they found the incident distressing and that it left them feeling unsafe in their own homes.

Wilkinson was also found to have a track record of violence and causing problems at the sheltered housing scheme, and had been subject to previous injunctions in April 2011 and August 2012 after he attacked a visitor.

The council’s ASBAT and legal teams took action and Edmonton County Court earlier this month granted a two-year injunction against the pair.

Under the injunction, which lasts until February 7, 2016, both are banned from visiting Palace Gates or being anywhere in Braemar Avenue.

Breach of the injunction could lead to further action, including possible imprisonment.

Councillor Richard Watson, Haringey Council cabinet member for communities, said: “We have a duty of care to our vulnerable, elderly tenants and are absolutely clear that we will do what it takes to protect them against this sort of behaviour.

“It is unacceptable for anyone to intimidate and alarm innocent people in this way. We’re grateful to the residents of Palace Gates, whose bravery helped us to secure this injunction, and we will continue to work with them to ensure that it Mr Wilkinson and Ms Larner stay away from Palace Gates or face the consequences.”
