A man from Harringay has been given a restraining and ordered to pay more than £600 after he pleaded guilty to harassing his ex-girlfriend.

Joshua Min Htut, of Sydney Road, admitted to the harassment charge at Stratford Magistrates Court on Monday, February 10.

The 32-year-old filmmaker relentlessly sent his former lover threatening and abusive messages on a social network system, waited for her outside her place of work and repeatedly and excessively telephoned her.

She eventually had the courage to report the harassment to the police.

On Thursday, February 27, Htut was handed a restraining order – which will remain in place until further notice – and ordered to pay a £200 fine, £200 costs, £200 compensation and a £20 victim surcharge.

Jon Moseling, Acting Detective Sergeant at Hackney Police, who brought the investigation to court, said: "I would urge anyone who has, or is, suffering harassment from an ex-partner to come forward and report it.

“We will support them and bring the perpetrator to justice. This sentence sends a clear message that this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated".
