A school in Highgate has signed up to an education programme to help pupils harness the power of technology by creating their own apps.

Highgate Wood School, in Montenotte Road, is one of ten schools taking part in the Apps for Good (AfG) programme in partnership with Samsung Electronics.

Over the next year, Samsung will support the school with tablets and phones, allowing students to test the apps they have developed.

Highgate Wood students showcased their already completed work as part of event to launch the partnership between Apps for Good and the technology manufacturer.

They demonstrated their appss to fellow students, Hornsey and Wood Green MP Lynne Featherstone and representatives from Samsung and AfG.

Ms Featherstone said: “It’s fantastic for the students at Highgate Wood to be given this opportunity.

“I’ve been particularly impressed to see so many girls enthusiastically participating in the programme.

“The high standard of work I have seen goes to show how tech-savvy young people are today compared with previous generations.

“The next stage is ensuring this talent is not wasted and I hope it encourages them to consider technology as a career for themselves and for the good of the country as a whole.”
