Neighbours in a street plagued by anti-social behaviour have criticised the police and Haringey Borough Council for ten years’ lack of action.

People living in Boundary Road, Wood Green, claim they have had to put up with yobs drinking alcohol, smoking drugs in the street and making noise throughout the night.

Jamie To, who works in a GP surgery, has lived in the street since 1980 and said that she and her neighbours have been complaining for years.

The 42-year-old said: “There are people smoking, drinking and doing drugs.

“One of my neighbours was threatened and told that he and his family would be burned alive in their house.

“We can’t live like this – we are all suffering – my neighbour is scared to leave his house and calls me from work to ask me to look after his home because he’s worried it will be vandalised.”

Ms To also said that she had been repeatedly accosted on her doorstep and often finds bags of used syringes on the pavement.

They have repeatedly complained to both the police and the council but claim little has been done.

Ms To accused the council of turning a blind eye until recently, when it agreed to investigate claims of anti-social behaviour.

She added: “My neighbours and I just don’t know where to turn and the council is supposed to be there to help people, the councillors are supposed to represent us and they are not doing anything about it.

“This is a family street and most of the people here worked hard to buy their houses – no one wants to come home to this sort of abuse.

“Why has it taken ten years for them to even acknowledge that there is problem in our road?”

On Tuesday, Ms To sent an email to 51 of the borough’s councillors and both of its MPs to explain the situation and demand they take stronger action.

A spokesman for the council said: “Since being made aware of complaints about properties on Boundary Road, our anti-social behaviour team has written to all residents on the street to gather information that will help us investigate further.

“We will not tolerate anti-social behaviour and we always encourage residents to report any concerns to us so we can clamp down on the small minority who make their neighbours lives a misery.”

The Haringey Independent is awaiting a comment from Haringey Police.
