Haringey Federation of Residents Associations and Haringey Friends of Parks Forum organise guided walk along River Moselle

People can find out about “Haringey’s river” and local proverbs it gave rise to in a guided walk later this month.

Haringey Federation of Residents Associations and Haringey Friends of Parks Forum will run a free guided walk along the River Moselle on Sunday, April 13.

The group describes the River Moselle is “Haringey’s river” because it flows from Highgate to the east of the borough.

It is responsible for such sayings as “When it rains in Muswell Hill, it floods in Tottenham” and “Highgate’s rain in Tottenham’s pain".

The walk has been organised for the third time, but this year the walk will start from Wood Green instead of starting from Queen’s Wood, in Highgate.

This is to ensure that everyone reaches the point where the Moselle flows into the River Lea.

Walk leader Chris Barker said: “On previous walks starting at the Moselle’s source in Queen’s Wood we have had a lunch stop at Lordship Rec.

“Some people have dropped out at this point so don’t get to see Tottenham Cemetery, the High Road and Markfield Park which is a real shame.

“So by shortening the walk to four miles we expect that everyone will reach the end.”

The walk will go through Noel Park conservation area, Lordship Recreation Ground, Tottenham Cemetery, Tottenham High Road and end at Markfield Park, where the listed beam engine will be open.

People who wish to go on the walk should meet outside Wood Green Library at 11am on Sunday, April 13.
